M, 50 years old was referred to Vocation Training by Women into Construction, a scheme that supports women into construction as a career. M had been unemployed for a number of months due to ill health and was nervous but excited to enter a new sector and potentially get back into work.
M was concerned about the length of unemployment and her age being barriers. M was also concerned about the aspect of potential conflicts with members of the public whilst working in traffic management and handling road closures, however during the first week of the traffic management training conflict management techniques and different ways to handle conflict were discussed. M participated hugely in this and admitted she felt much better after. She completed the first week of training and had an excellent understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Trainee Traffic Management Operative.
M continued onto the second week of the traffic management training (the technical training week) and passed all her exams with high marks. M started her work trial on the 5th November 2019 and started a permanent and full time contract in traffic management on the 11th November 2019.
M gave excellent feedback for the training course stating that her confidence had gone from a 5/10 to a 9/10 by the end of the course.
