L, 19 years old, came to Vocation Training for support breaking into the construction industry as she felt it was a very male dominated sector and liked that she would be given a guaranteed work trial. She had also been unemployed for six months and felt that this was an additional barrier to finding employment in an industry she had no experience in.
L completed the traffic management training and was given an insight into women who work in the sector, including speaking to employers about other females who worked for them. This improved L’s confidence.
L started her work trial on 24th September 2019 and was offered full time work on 30th September 2019. L was over the moon with this and credited the training and support received. She is in regular contact with the team at Vocation Training, is doing well and is still employed with the same company, enjoying the work.
